Client Background

Gamian Europe (Global Alliance of Mental Illness Advocacy Networks-Europe) is a leading pan-European organization dedicated to advocacy, education, and awareness campaigns around mental health. Their mission focuses on reducing stigma, promoting better mental health policies, and enhancing the quality of life for individuals affected by mental illness across Europe.

Project Overview:

We collaborated remotely with Gamian Europe to produce impactful video content aimed at raising awareness and education on critical mental health topics, including:

  • Migraine Comorbidity: Highlighting the intersection between migraines and mental health challenges, illustrating how migraine sufferers often experience additional mental health burdens.
  • World Mental Health Day: Campaign videos aimed at breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and encouraging open conversations and support networks.
  • Cancer and Depression Comorbidity: Exploring the often-overlooked emotional and psychological impact of cancer, addressing the coexistence of depression and chronic illness.

Production Process:

Given the remote working setup—Gamian Europe being based in Europe and my operations in South Africa—the workflow involved receiving video interview footage shot independently by patients and mental health experts. This footage frequently required considerable enhancement to achieve a professional standard due to variances in recording quality and conditions.

My role included:

  • Video Editing: Refining raw interview footage into compelling narratives, maintaining viewer engagement throughout videos ranging from 10 to 20 minutes.
  • Animation and Motion Graphics: Creating custom graphics and animations to visually emphasize key messages, ensuring clarity and enhanced storytelling.
  • Stock Video Selection: Curating and integrating relevant stock footage that complemented the interviews, adding depth and visual appeal to each narrative.

Deliverables:

For each campaign, I delivered comprehensive long-form videos providing an in-depth exploration of each topic. Additionally, I produced concise, impactful teaser videos optimized for social media platforms, effectively driving audience interest and engagement towards the longer content.

Skills Utilized:

This collaborative project successfully supported Gamian Europe’s advocacy initiatives, significantly enhancing their capacity to inform, engage, and educate diverse audiences on crucial mental health issues.
